CO(M)XÉNERO 4. Fighting dismemory

Permanent Seminar on Communication and Gender

The persistence of the androcentric discourse in the contents, the editorial line and the organizational structures of the current media and creative industries reflects and perpetuates an asymmetric and dysfunctional society that silences and disables divergent positions.

In order to put an end to this disabling dynamic, the construction of audiences and collectives formed in critical thinking, capable of analyzing, deconstructing and even beginning to reverse the representations and sexist structures present in the media is a need.

‘Fighting dismemory’ is the motto that brings us together in the fourth sesion of CO(M)XÉNERO. On this occasion, we want to reflect on female authorship and the need to seize our stories and history from different perspectives in order to construct intercultural representations and discourses.

The seminar is aimed at communication students, researchers, professionals and people interested in analysing mass media and creative industries from a critical perspective.

In order to comply with the health and hygiene measures required by the authorities, the number of available places is limited to 60. Atendees will be able to follow the event in the Faculty of Communication Science or via streaming [1]. Registration is open until October 16.

The fouth edition of CO(M)XÉNERO is organized by GEA – Audiovisual Studies Research Group and financed by Xunta de Galicia through the Call for the Consolidation and Structuring of Competitive Research Units-2017.
