CO(M)XÉNERO IX. Memes, adolescence and uncertainties

Adolescence and humour in their contemporary forms

The ninth edition of the Permanent Seminar on Communication and Gender CO(M)XÉNERO, organised by the Grupo de Estudos Audiovisuais, will work on adolescence and humour in their contemporary forms, understanding these practices as a symptom, on the one hand, of the violent reactions to feminism and, on the other, of the very reflections on liberation.

Tuesday 14 November will begin with the master class “O poder dun meme. Production of feminist and anti-feminist humour in the networks”. Marta Pérez Pereiro, professor and researcher at the GEA, will reflect on this figure of humour 2.0 as an oppressive form or as a space for emancipation and feminist creation. Next, Laura Tabarés, a visual artist who belongs to Espazo Leira and Feminist Ontologies, will offer a workshop on the creation of memes in line with her research into digitality as a means of accessing other planes of reality, revealing how violence operates and speculating on other political possibilities.

María José Masanet, professor and researcher at the University of Barcelona (Transgelit), will address on Wednesday 15 November in “Violencias e series adolescentes: evolución da representación e dos elementos argumentais” the narratives of young audiences and their archetypes in fiction series, linked to the gender perspective and the representation of sexuality and love relationships with media education and transmedia narratives. He will also develop the workshop “Rachar estereotipos: creación de narrativas adolescentes diversas”, as a practical complement to the reflections of the previous lecture.

Registration is free and will be open until 10 November via this form.
