They have just published the proceedings of the International Symposium Costumismo, humor, melancolía, reflexividade: Impronta de Wenceslao Fernández Flórez no cinema español, that was held in March in Santiago de Compostela and A Coruña. The scientific event was organized within the scope of the Research Project Towards a reconsideration of post-war culture: analysis of the Modes of Representation in Spanish cinema (1939-1962) from Wenceslao Fernández Flórez’s mark (CSO2012-34648, Plan Nacional de I+D+i 2013-2015, Mineco – Gobierno de España) by Grupo Estudos Audiovisuais (University of Santiago de Compostela), University of A Coruña, Deputación da Coruña, Concello da Coruña and Centro Galego de Artes da Imaxe – Filmoteca de Galicia, also with the support of Fundación Wenceslao Fernández Flórez, Asociación Española de Historiadores del Cine, Asociación de la Prensa de La Coruña and Galicia Calidade.
The Symposium brought together prestigious specialists in the literary work of Fernández Flórez and prominent historians of the cinema (many of them members of the project, but also with relevant external researchers) that deepened in the influence of the work of the Galician writer in the formation of certain models of stylization in the post-war Spanish cinema.
All conferences have now been collected in this book published by Shangrila with the title Tragedias de la vida vulgar: Adaptaciones e irradiaciones de Wenceslao Fernández Flórez en el cine español. The book is a rigorous study of the relationships between Fernández Flórez and Spanish cinema, with works focused perspectives literary (on the personality and the work of the author) and cinematic, with approximations to the Spanish Cinema of the time and the direct influence of the writer in the adaptations of his works and even in other films that also appreciates his transcendental imprint.
