José Sellier en A Coruña: los comienzos del cine español
Although he lives in A Coruña part of his childhood, José Sellier Loup (France, 1850, A Coruña, 1922) settled permanently in the Galician city in 1886. Immediately relevant photographer, acquires a cinematograph as soon as it is available for sale in May of 1897. That same month, he shoots “several views of A Coruña” which are, with the data we have available, the first Spanish films made with Lumière camera. On June 20 the only one of his tapes that we can date accurately impresses: Entierro del general Sánchez Bregua. Other titles such as Orzán, oleaje; Fábrica de gas; Cantón Grande or Desembarco de los heridos de Cuba en nuestro puerto (already in 1898) compose their exceptionally early filmography.
