Out of place: (in)tangible bodies in the minority cultures of the Iberian Peninsula. Literature, Cinema and Art
Call for Papers opened until the 15th of June
Call for papers for the congress “Out of place: (in)tangible bodies in the minority cultures of the Iberian Peninsula. Literature, Cinema and Art”, which will take place in Warsaw on the 14th and 15th of November 2019. The activity will be organized by different entities: Institute of Iberian and Ibero-American Studies of the University of Warsaw, Research Group (OUTRA)IBERIA, Galician Studies Center of Warsaw, Etxepare Basque Institute, Ramon Llull Institute, Camões Institute, International Association of Galician Studies and Cervantes Institute of Warsaw.
The congress aims to investigate, focussing in the body, how alterity is conceptualized from Catalan, Galician, Basque, and Mirandese literature, art and cinema:
We will be interested in how the Other is constructed from the perspective of minority cultures and how, in reference to this Other, one’s own identities are created; and, on the other hand, how dominant cultures (Spanish and Portuguese, respectively) inscribe otherness in minority cultures, we also want to examine what values are attributed to the Other and how they manifest themselves through the body from both perspectives. We propose to study which areas of alterity are framed within the Catalan, Galician, Basque and Mirandese identities, as well as their possible variants and their multidimensional character.
The communications, with a duration of 20 minutes, can be done in Galician, Basque, Catalan, Spanish, Portuguese, Mirandese and English. Proposals must be sent through the congress web page, following the “inscription form” tab, before the 15th of December 2019. Registration fee is 60 EUROS / 250 PLN, to be paid before August 31st. The articles derived from the congress, after previous acceptance, will be published in the indexed magazine Iberian Studies of the Iaguelónica University. The deadline for receipt of proposals is the 31st of December, 2019.
