USC professor and researcher María Soliña Barreiro, a member of the GEA, was the content coordinator of the “2nd Galician Audiovisual Industry Forum (FIGA)” held on 7, 8 and 9 November at A Coruña. Under the slogan ‘Language and Audiovisual’, this forum served to debate and analyse linguistic diversity in the audiovisual sector, with the aim of assessing the current situation and discussing future challenges.

The programme was divided into three thematic days.

  • Thursday, 7th – ‘In search of the new television: young audiences, accessibility and renewed references’, focused on the challenge of capturing younger audiences, while maintaining linguistic diversity as a differential value.
  • Friday, 8th – ‘A cultural sphere of our own: producing in minority languages’, aimed at analysing the impact of creating content in non-hegemonic languages.
  • Saturday, 9th – ‘Towards a stable circuit and standardisation in the language of audiovisuals’. The closing day explored the possibilities of moving towards a solid Galician audiovisual system that allows the effective normalisation of the use of the Galician language.

The Galician Audiovisual Industry Forum is an initiative of the Galician Audiovisual Academy, with the collaboration of the Audiovisual Studies Group of the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC).
