Margarita Ledo, coordinator of the Estudos Audiovisuais Research Group, attended the XV Documentary Festival Santiago Alvarez In Memoriam which took place between 6th and 11th of march in Santiago de Cuba. Ledo presented at the festival his dissertation “En torno a lo viejo y lo nuevo en el documental contemporáneo”, and was one of the members of the jury of the main competition.
In her dissertation, Ledo pointed out that “it was not a montage cinema, with close to hand materials, arquive restoration or resignification of press photos, that is what is being do nowadays in a expansive way. With Hanoi, Santiago Álvarez organized the daily with the rupture, which is the war, precisely this kind of conflict is something that defines the contemporanean documentary genre”. Likewise, she appealed for recovering the memory of the documentary genre and to create the own tradition of this audiovisual expression.
The film Morlaix will be screened in the auditorium of the Faculty of Communication Sciences of the University of Santiago de Compostela on Tuesday, February 4, at 11 am.
