Coming soon: Presentation of two books of the project on the post-war Spanish cinema at Fundación Wenceslao Fernández Flórez
Friday, February 27 the Fundación Wenceslao Fernández Flórez will host the presentation of Tragedias de la vida vulgar. Adaptaciones e irradiaciones de Wenceslao Fernández Flórez en el cine español and El malvado Carabel: literatura y cine popular antes y después de la Guerra Civil. The books are the result of some of the investigations that are being developed in the Project Towards a reconsideration of postwar culture: analysis of the Modes of Representation in Spanish cinema (1939-1962) from Wenceslao Fernández Flórez’s mark (CSO2012-34648, Plan Nacional de I+D+i 2013-2015, Mineco – Gobierno de España).
Edited by Shangrila and coordinated by José Luis Castro de Paz, José María Folgar de la Calle, Fernando Gómez Beceiro and Héctor Paz Otero, Tragedias de la vida vulgar. Adaptaciones e irradiaciones de Wenceslao Fernández Flórez en el cine español includes the proceedings of the International Symposium Costumismo, humor, melancolía, reflexividade: Impronta de Wenceslao Fernández Flórez no cinema español. The Symposium brought together prestigious specialists in the literary work of Fernández Flórez and prominent historians of the cinema that deepened in the influence of the work of the Galician writer in the formation of certain models of stylization in the post-war Spanish cinema. On the other hand, the second book is a rigorous study of José Luis Castro de Paz and Héctor Paz Otero on filmic adaptations undertaken by Edgar Neville in 1935 and Fernando Fernán-Gómez in 1955 over the novel El malvado Carabel, considering them as a link between the best Republican popular cinema and more rebel movies of the 1950s. The book has been published by Via Láctea Editorial and constitutes the beginning of the collection Cuadernos de Cine y Cultura Posbélica Española.
In addition, the Principal Investigator of the Project and President of the Fundación Wenceslao Fernández Flórez, José Luis Castro de Paz, will present the objectives and immediate negotiations for the institution and be signed collaboration agreements with the Grimh and the AEHC.
Along with the authors, will be attending the event: Mariel Padín (Vice President of Deputación da Coruña), Manuel Rivas Caridad (Mayor of Cambre), Julio Pérez Perucha (President of Asociación Española de Historiadores del Cine), Jean Claude Seguin (Honoray President of Grimh), and Wenceslao and Antonio Luis Fernández Flórez (Presidents of honour of Fundación Wenceslao Fernández Flórez).
