XESCOM is a scientific collaboration project (R2016 / 019), financed under a competitive concurrency system by the Consellería de Cultura, Educación y Ordenación Universitaria de la Xunta de Galicia (Spain), launched in 2014 and in which nearly a hundred researchers from universities around the world: Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha, Universidad de Huelvaa and Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (Spain); Universidade do Porto, Universidade do Minho, Universidade da Beira Interior, Universidade Fernando Pessoa and Universidade dos Açores (Portugal); University of Hull and University of Leeds (United Kingdom); Università degli Studi di Firenze and Sapienza University of Rome (Italy); Universidad Técnica de Machala, Universidad Pontificia Católica del Ecuador Sede Ibarra, Universidad Laica Eloy Alfaro de Manabí and CIESPAL (Ecuador) ;Universidade Federal da Bahía and Universidad eFederal de Santa Catarina (Brasil); Universidad Autónoma de Ciudad Juárez, Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas, Universidad de Sonora and Universidad Autónoma de Chihuahua (México).
Since 2015, XESCOM has been organizing an international symposium to promote the meeting between researchers in the field of communication and other related areas. The first edition (2015) was held in the city of Pontevedra, Spain; the city of Quito, in Ecuador, received the second edition (2016); The third symposium (2018) was held in A Coruña, Spain; and the city of Porto will host the fourth edition, in April 2019.
This symposium was structured to promote forums devoted to scientific research and to the analysis of the current situation of communication management in the media and in business and institutional organizations, from a theoretical, instrumental and empirical perspective. In this sense, it is intended to address issues related to communication management, technological advances, social responsibility of the media and other issues that are a constant challenge for professionals in the field of communication and related areas every day.
In the 2019 edition, other topics such as creative industries and entrepreneurship in the digital era are added to XESCOM’s main areas of work. The fourth symposium will be developed with the collaboration of the IMMAA (International Media Management Academic Association), the PIMENED (Integrated Mentor Project, Enterprise Spirit and Business Models in Digital Edition) and the Universidade do Porto.
