RTVE Play as a public service audiovisual communication platform: a model to be rethought
The evolution of the audiovisual sector following the popularization of the disruptive platform model has compelled public authorities to update their regulatory frameworks. In this context, Public Service Media (PSM) have implemented corporate and commercial strategies to compete with transnational operators, which possess greater economic and productive capabilities, at times subordinating their public service mission.
In this article, we study the case of the public platform RTVE Play, analyzing its degree of compliance with the provisions of Law 13/2022, the General Audiovisual Communication Law, which imposes greater obligations on platforms, as well as its degree of transparency and commitment, as a public service, to legally stipulated principles such as linguistic diversity, the protection of minors, and accessibility.
